We received news today, the Diocese of Virginia sent this message out.
It is with deep sorrow that I write to you to inform of the death of The Rev. Chris Roussell, Rector of St. John's Episcopal Church in Lynchburg. Chris had suffered a severe heart attack yesterday and died early this morning at Lynchburg General Hospital with his wife Alison and his brother Reagan by his side.
I quote now from a message sent out by The Rev. Ben Cowgill: "St. John’s will hold a funeral this week for Father Chris and a visitation with a viewing the evening before. As we make the arrangements today, more details will be shared in a later email and announced tomorrow at worship.
"Father Chris and Alison have deep roots in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, and details are pending about a burial service later in the week in Louisiana for their family and the communities they have been a part of there.
Bishop Mark, who wanted to share the following with you all: 'Chris was, first and foremost, a devoted priest of the Church but also a leader in this diocese and a trusted colleague and friend of mine. He will be sorely missed by so many.'
Blessings and Peace; +Matt
Please watch for further communication, we will share with you the plans as we receive them. Take time to grieve, but also take time to celebrate and honor our brother, our priest, and our friend, Chris."
Rest eternal grant to Chris, O Lord; And let light perpetual shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
