"The Episcopal Church has a quiet gem that’s been hiding in plain sight: “Protesting Faithfully: The Episcopal Street-Action Handbook,” writes the Rev. Melanie Mullen, former Director of Reconciliation, Justice & Creation Care at The Office of the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church.
The Episcopal Street Action Handbook is available for download and is offered freely to all who are "integrating critical social justice theory with spiritual care in a way that can be used on the streets," according to the handbook.
It is a "free guide to serving as protest chaplains and faithful companions in the struggle for justice," the handbook says.
The booklet proclaims that it as "grounded in Episcopal social ethics" and says, "this handbook equips religious leaders with practical wisdom for providing spiritual care during nonviolent direct action."
Rev. Mullen, who helped created the booklet, posted the link to it on her Facebook page, and wrote, "Praying for safety for all who take up this sacred work -- may we be instruments of God’s peace as we strive to build the Kingdom of Heaven here on Earth, where justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream."
In her post, she added, "Whether you’re called to stand with the oppressed, comfort the afflicted, or simply be a prayerful presence in the struggle, this handbook bridges the gap between faith and action." You can also directly download the handbook here.
