As The Episcopal Church continues to redefine its formation and evangelism efforts to serve the needs of dioceses, it has produced a new video series about the sacraments in collaboration with Forward Movement. The three 20-minute-long videos—in English with Spanish subtitles—are ideal for newcomer classes, adult formation, and those preparing for confirmation.
The series comes with study guides designed for group discussion and learning and will be released in March. The first video, “Signs and Grace: An Introduction to the Sacraments,” provides an overview. The other two videos focus on baptism and the Eucharist. View a promotional video about the series.
The new partnership between Forward Movement and The Episcopal Church also includes a newly revitalized Sermons that Work portfolio on the church’s website that includes printed sermons, Bible studies and a weekly podcast managed by Forward Movement. The sermons are designed both as a resource for preachers and for lay-led congregations that can use the sermons during Sunday worship. Learn more.
The Episcopal Church’s partnership with Forward Movement was inspired by Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe’s commitment to sharing the Good News and nurturing new Episcopalians with resources that can be shared churchwide.
“We’re trying to bring a winsome message, a transformational message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a world that desperately needs to hear it,” he said at the 2025 Episcopal Parish Network conference. “I daresay where the work is happening and the ministry is happening is on the ground in the parishes and institutions. …How do we scale up the things people are doing for the whole church?”
Forward Movement is a self-sustaining discipleship ministry of The Episcopal Church created by the church’s General Convention in 1934. For decades, Forward Movement has produced devotionals (including the popular “Forward Day by Day”), Bible studies, formation courses, and other resources to equip and support people in their walk with Christ.
The collaboration between The Episcopal Church and Forward Movement will also include an upcoming bilingual video series on the baptismal promises. Additional projects could follow.
“Forward Movement has proudly supported discipleship in Episcopal congregations for more than 90 years,” said Forward Movement Executive Director Scott Gunn. “We’re grateful for this latest opportunity to expand our mission to inspire disciples and empower evangelists, and are prepared to continue moving forward, as we have always done.”
